HEROES WHO DIED IN THE VILLAGE ALAMINOS

GEORGE LAZAROU
1944-1964 from Alaminos
As you enter in the village, right after the bridge and opposite
of the church of Agios Mamas, you will see a monument dedicated to
George Lazarou. It is stone made and in the center there is a statue
which represents the hero.
George Lazarou was born in 1944 in Alaminos.
He went to the Elementary School of the village and then he went
to the Pancyprian High School in Larnaca. Thereafter, he went to
the philosophical school of the University of Athens.
When he was still a student of the university, he came back in Cyprus
and joined the National Guard.
He became a sergeant and he took part in the fight of Masoura in
Tylliria.
On 8th August he died while fighting against the planes of the enemy.
Near the monument of George Lazarou, the inhabitants of the community
erected statues for the heroes who died fighting for the freedom
of their country.
VASILEIOU TAKIS
1944-1974 from Larnaca
He was born in Larnaca on 16th March 1944.
After his graduation from the Elementary School and the American
Academy in Larnaca he worked as a bank clerk.
He was married and he had two sons.
On 20th July 1974, he joined the army as a reserve officer and he
took part in the fights in Alaminos where he died as a hero.
IOANNOU FRIXOS
1941-1974 from Xylofagou
He was born in Xylofagou on 25th August in 1941.
After his graduation from the Elementary School of his village he
became a farmer.
On 20th July 1974 he died in a fight in Alaminos.
He was married and he had four children.
MANDRIDIS KLITOS
1949-1974 from Larnaca
He was born in Episkopi in 1949 but he grew up in Larnaca.
He graduated from the High School of Agios Georgios and after his
military service he opened a store in Larnaca where he sold frozen
food.
He was married with two children.
He died in a fight on 20th July in 1974 in Alaminos.
GEORGE STAVROU
1948-1974 from Larnaca
He was born in Larnaca on 23th April 1948.
He graduated from the High School of Larnaca and had his military
service in the Greek Military Police in Cyprus.
After his military service he worked as an employee in PETROLINA.
On 20th July he died in a fight which took place in Alaminos.
CHRISTODOULOS CHRISTODOULOU
1946-1974 from Larnaca
He was born in Egypt on 15th August 1946.
One year later he moved with his parents in Larnaca.
After his graduation from the high school of Larnaca and his military
service in the National Guard, he worked as an employee in the Social
Insurance Office in Larnaca.
On 20th July 1974 he died in the fights against
the Turks in Alaminos.
